Do I need an account?
Not to try it. You can have a few full conversations as a guest right away. Creating a free account (email or Google, about 10 seconds) saves your progress and streak, syncs them across devices, and gives you 5 free conversations every day. Anything you practiced as a guest carries over.
I don't know a single word. Is this for me?
Yes. The Intro lessons are built for total beginners: a patient tutor hands you each phrase to try, with its meaning, one at a time. You'll say your first real sentences in your first session.
How is this different from Duolingo or other apps?
Most apps teach you to recognize words. Echoly makes you produce them in a live back-and-forth, which is the part of real conversations that's actually hard. Many people use both: apps for vocabulary, Echoly to practice actually speaking.
Can I practice speaking out loud?
Yes. Tap the microphone to say your reply instead of typing it. Speech input works in Chrome and Edge. In other browsers you can type, and every reply can still be read aloud to you.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Echoly runs in your browser on any phone, tablet or computer. On your phone, use "Add to Home Screen" and it opens like a regular app.
What happens to my conversations?
